Pre-Alpha v0.1.0

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026 · Tokai is a research project at National Taiwan University CSIE

Summary

In Pre-Alpha v0.1.0, Tokai collects no personal data from users of the application. The app runs entirely in your browser. You are not required to create an account to use it, and we do not track your sessions, usage, or neural data.

What we collect right now

  • Application usage

None. The Tokai app (tokai-pre-alpha-tokai.vercel.app) does not require sign-in and does not collect, transmit, or store any user data, session data, or behavioral data.

  • EEG / neural data

None. All neural data in Pre-Alpha is simulated. No real EEG data is processed or stored by Tokai servers.

  • Claude API key

If you choose to use TokAgent, you provide your own Anthropic Claude API key. This key is stored only in your browser's local storage and is never transmitted to Tokai's servers. Your API calls go directly from your browser to Anthropic's API under Anthropic's own terms of service.

  • Marketing website (tokai.app)

If you voluntarily sign up on tokai.app, your email address is stored via Supabase, a third-party authentication provider, solely for the purpose of providing early access. We do not share or sell this information. You may request deletion at any time by emailing austin@tokai.app.

  • Analytics & cookies

We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising trackers, or non-essential cookies.

What will change in Alpha and beyond

As Tokai progresses beyond Pre-Alpha, data collection practices will evolve to support research and product development. Planned changes include, but are not limited to:

  • User account creation and authentication
  • Collection of EEG and biometric data (with explicit informed consent)
  • Storage of task, journal, and productivity data to personalize the AI agent
  • Anonymized, aggregated research data to support NTU academic research and potential SBIR/STTR grant obligations
  • Optional data sharing for research purposes (always opt-in)

This Privacy Policy will be updated and users will be notified before any such changes take effect. Data collection in Alpha will require explicit consent and will comply with applicable privacy regulations.

Research context
